Dual Degree Program

Washington University Engineering cooperates with a select group of colleges in a Dual Degree Program leading to an undergraduate liberal arts degree and an undergraduate engineering degree (with an option available to also earn a graduate degree in engineering).

Participants commonly follow "3-2" or "4-2" schedules, entering the School of Engineering after their junior or senior years at an affiliated institution. Students following the 4-2 scheduling must apply no later than one year after graduation. Admitted students should be able to earn an undergraduate engineering degree with four semesters of technical study, and a Master's degree in engineering in two additional semesters. Since 1975, over 1,400 students from affiliated schools have successfully completed the Dual Degree Program.

Admission

To be considered for admission to the Dual Degree Program, students must complete courses in Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Humanities and Social Sciences, English Composition, Statistics, and Dynamics. Statistics and Dynamics are only required for Civil and Mechanical Engineering. A grade point average of B+ (3.25/4.0) or better and a minimum of 70-90 semester hours of transferable college credit are required. (Courses with grades below C- do not transfer.)

Programs of Study

Programs of study lead to the same Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees available to other students in the School of Engineering. Students meeting the Dual Degree Program admission requirements should be able to earn an undergraduate engineering degree in four semesters of technical study, and a Master's degree in two additional semesters.
